Design Confidence

People are often intrigued by Interior Design.  They love the idea of living in an amazing space. Some people have a natural eye for it, and others struggle with getting the whole interior to gel.  We love working with all types of people but the best clients put themselves in our hands and have the confidence to step out of their comfort zone.

The thing about interior design is that its not as easy as it looks.  There is a whole lot of thought behind every element.  Proportion, colour and shape play a huge part in achieving a look that is unique and aesthetically beautiful.  One of the more difficult aspects of our job is convincing clients to run with ideas.  We often get comments like "its a good idea but ......"  When we present a risky idea the question that often pops up is " will it date?"  The simple truth is that eventually everything dates.  Even iconic designs will advance and change as time passes.  So don't play it too safe.  You'll get the best result if you actually see taking a risk not only as a danger but as a chance.  Be bold and willing to really go with us where no man has gone before!

If you're paying an interior designer or architect - let them do their thing.  Have confidence in them.  Good designers will consider the space, your lifestyle, personal style and preferred colours.  They will interpret your interior into a work of art that is beyond what you could have ever imagined.  (if you let them!)

A Timeless and well executed interior, yet convincing clients to use black flooring and white walls isn't as easy as you would expect. This stunner reeks of style. Bold and beautiful.

Parisian Apartment. A simple and timeless colour palette. Chevron flooring has been used for centuries in Paris, yet this look is very now. How so? Today's chevron floors are matt finished using warm engineered timber. The bold marble is the hero of this interior. That marble could be a difficult convince for many clients.....Swapping it for a safe white stone would break my heart.

Who says you have to conform? We've shifted so much as a society that anything goes. Don't get stuck in a rut. Push your personal style.

"You have to try it. You have only one trip, you've got to remember that." Iris Apfel.

Nothing better than a mezzanine in a big space. The curves help soften a large space and add visual punch.

Decisions decsions. "There's no right or wrong.....its all about how you put it together!" Said someone somewhere once.

What would you say to some teal cabinets? Say yes! you won't regret it.

Its a simple as Brass, stone and black joinery. Proportion is everything sometimes. Custom stools and the range hood are things that make you go ooooh!

A good curve can relax a space and take it to that next level.

Think of your island bench as a piece of furniture. Would you? Could you?

There are so many beautiful tiles around today, how do you choose? Creativity starts with an idea - try it, use that tile, take a risk and wait for the response.

According to Iris Apfel, great personal style is about knowing yourself, staying curious, and maintaining a sense of humor. Her career as an interior designer and textile maker has taken her to far corners of the world. To Quote Iris " There is no how to road map to style. Its about self expression, and above all, attitude."
