Bring in 2019: 5 interior resolutions for the new year
The interior design landscape is an ever evolving one; from Pantone’s Living Coral to textured mermaid tiles and rattan furniture, new trends develop every year. With 2019 well underway, now is the perfect time to streamline your interior space and implement some design resolutions. Here are our top interior trends for the year:
Green
Even though Pantone’s Colour of the Year may be on the peachy side, this year is all about the green: rich emeralds, coastal teals and even mint greens. The easiest way to incorporate this trend? With living plants, of course!
You don’t have to fork out for a new sofa (especially if you aren’t completely sold on the colour) – a low maintenance peace lily or trailing devil’s ivy will do wonders in making your space feel alive. Not to mention plants are great for removing air pollutants.
Clutter-free
Decluttering seems to be something that gets talked about every time a new season rolls around. However, this trend is about more than just a spring (or summer) clean; it’s about creating a sense of openness and purpose across the entire house.
We’re not saying you should embrace minimalism, but if you’re going to fill your home with things, make those choices intentional. Décor isn’t just there to fill a void, it should serve a purpose. Choose pieces that reflect your style – not ones that will fade by next season.
Sustainable
This has to be one of my personal favourites. With the environment showcasing the impacts of our mass consumerism, it’s a relief to see a trend toward beautiful décor with a small eco-footprint.
Being picky about what interior items you choose to purchase is a key ingredient to a sustainable ethos. It is better to invest in a few timeless pieces that will ride the trends than splurge on the hottest short-lived pieces. From recomposed marble to energy-saving appliances, there are plenty of options to make your interior a little more sustainable.
Natural materials
Earthy tones, natural fibres and terracotta textures – this trend goes hand-in-hand with the previous one. 2019 will see a strong emphasis on bringing the outdoors in, with the movement towards natural fabrics and materials all about introducing an oasis into your home.
Who needs Bali when you can have rain showerheads and giant tropical plants in your bathroom, right?The beauty of this trends is its ability to work across an array of styles – anything from French Provincial and Hamptons to Scandi, boho and everything in between.
Matte black
Okay, so this one isn’t exactly a new movement. 2018 saw plenty of amazing interiors utilising this trend, and 2019 appears to be no different.
And why should it be? Matte black is the perfect accent to natural materials such as marble splashbacks and terrazzo tiling. From lighting to tapware and even sideboards, this trend is likely to continue well into new year (and beyond).
