Last minute festive Christmas interior additions (that aren’t tacky tinsel)

They call this the silly season, and for good reason; with our Calendars jam-packed with events, work projects and last minute errands, you can be forgiven for putting any thoughts of shiny and shimmery décor on the backburner. But with only 8 sleeps left until Christmas, its high time to get your interior ready for the festive period. Here are a few ideas to kickstart your Christmas makeover – cringeworthy tinsel not included.

Bring the outdoors in

Adding a hint of festive cheer to your space can be as simple as introducing some pine cones or sprigs of eucalyptus. Simply throw them into a glass vase to create an effortless addition to your interior. Or go a step further and create a wreath from a lush fern to hang on a blank wall.

Less is more

You don’t need to aim for a Guinness Book record when it comes to Christmas decorating (unless that’s the goal). A few tasteful touches – a tree with some dainty fairy lights or some understated glass and gold baubles will help create a pared-back yet elegant atmosphere.

2020 colour

Get ahead of the trend by embracing Pantone’s Colour of the Year in your festive spruce up. Elegant glassware or placemats in Classic Blue can be a great way to introduce colour to a neutral palette – you can then continue to enjoy this hue throughout the new year.

Forgo the tree

For a really modern interior, why not skip the Christmas tree altogether? This may elicit gasps from some people, but there are many ways to embrace the festive spirit without the traditional tree – not to mention the practical benefits for those with small spaces or tree-obsessed pets. Add some festive wall art or table décor for a simple yet stylish substitute.

Festive bedroom

The bedroom is one area which tends to be overlooked when it comes to Christmas decorating. While the living, dining and outdoor areas receive the most foot traffic, this doesn’t mean you can’t jazz up the sleeping quarters with a few fun and festive additions. A couple of green velvet cushions or sequined throw till instantly invoke those Christmas-y vibes.
