7 bathroom trends we’re crushing on in 2021

With the second half of the year now in full swing, we wanted to share some of our favourite bathroom trends for the year. We’re not talking soon-to-be-outdated bathroom tech or churn-and-burn type trends. Here are the bathroom additions that are sure to transform your bathroom into a beautiful and timeless space.

Brushed metal tapware

High shine chrome had its time in the limelight, as did rose gold and matte black. Now, it’s time to embrace the more muted metals such as brushed nickel, brass and gun metal. What we love about this tapware is that it always looks sophisticated – that’s why we loved using it in the project featured above.

Not-quite-oval baths

Nothing helps cement the feeling of luxury in a bathroom quite like a freestanding bath. Instead of opting for your standard oval-shaped bath, however, why not take it to the next level with something a little different? We’re not suggesting anything as dramatic as one of those oversized spa baths; something with a little less symmetry (such as the bathroom we used in our Strathmore project above) than your standard bath is sure to enhance the entire space.

Statement stone

It can be easy to go for white or neutral stone when it comes to bathroom vanities. After all, white definitely looks and feels clean, and it’s also considered the safe option. But the bathroom vanity can also be a fantastic opportunity to make a statement – particularly when everything else is neutral. There are plenty of gorgeous natural stone selections available – honed leather granite and deep veined marble are just some of our favourites. Why not play a bit of matchy-matchy with your kitchen and use the same statement stone in your bathrooms? It’s sure to leave an impression.

Pendant lighting

Thought pendant lighting was reserved for dry areas? Think again. Bring the wow factor into your bathroom with some fantastic statement lighting. Not only will pendant lighting work to enhance the space, but it also helps create a warm, relaxing mood. We used the beautiful Gregg pendants by Italian designer Foscarini above to really elevate the entire bathroom in the project above.

Coloured grout

Want to add visual interest to your bathroom but not ready to give up the neutral colour palette? Then coloured grout is for you. Neutral tiles in various textures and sizes have been a pretty popular addition to bathrooms for a while now. But neutral doesn’t have to mean boring. Highlighting white tiling with a coloured grout can do wonders and changing to overall look and feel of the bathroom. See how gorgeous the Artedomus mosaics above look with some blush-coloured grout?

Floating vanities

One of the most popular trends we have seen (and used) this year is the floating vanity. While we admit that this trend lends itself better to the more contemporary lines of a modern bathroom, even more traditional bathrooms can benefit from a floating vanity. Floating vanities give the illusion of more space and can help make a bathroom feel less cramped. Best of all? This space-saving storage solution has more customisation options that ever before, with sinks and tapware to suit almost any style.

Backlit mirrors

There can be no argument that mirrors are an essential element in any bathroom. So, how do you make something so practical also add style to the space (while keeping it practical of course)? You add a backlight. Backlist mirrors really hit the ground running in 2020, and the trend shows no sign of slowing down. Why? Most mirrors (regardless of shape or size) look great with a backlight, and the trend is an easy, cost-effective way to enhance both the practicality and visual effect of the space.
