the value of seeing a piece in person
seeing furniture and materials in person adds another dimension to selection. this november 2020 archive brought together five melbourne showroom and retail references, each opening a different conversation about the interior.
the references below reflect that original selection, rather than a current directory. confirm locations, ranges and visiting arrangements with each business. our furniture selection service in melbourne uses showroom visits and samples to assess pieces within the wider design.
life interiors
the sarah ellison alva chairs were noted in our original life interiors selection. a chair’s profile can be understood in a photograph, but its scale, seat height and comfort are better assessed in use and against the intended table or room plan.
simple form
the kristina dam curved bench was a reference within the simple form selection. sculptural pieces need to be considered from more than one viewpoint, particularly where they sit within circulation or can be seen from an adjoining room.
molmic
molmic was included for its upholstered furniture. test seat depth, support and the way a sofa accommodates its users, then review fabric samples in the actual interior. construction and care are part of the selection alongside form.
the rug establishment
the rug establishment reference highlighted pattern, fibre and surface. a rug should be assessed at the scale of the furniture arrangement, with samples revealing texture and colour under the room’s light.
criteria
apparatus’s cloud 19 chandelier featured in our criteria archive selection. a distinctive light fitting is both a visual object and a source of light, requiring consideration of suspension, room height and the surfaces around it.
interior decoration and styling coordinates these decisions with art and textiles, allowing individual discoveries to contribute to a cohesive home.
