The 5 Australian furniture designers you need to know

With more time spent at home than ever before (especially true here in Melbourne), it’s no surprise that we’re all looking at fresh ways to update our interiors. And what better way to do that than to support some of the unbelievably talented Australian creatives?

We’re lucky enough to have some of the best designers here in Oz creating unique and beautiful furniture. That’s why we decided to round up our five favourites – the ones that are constantly making our interior wish lists grow larger.

en gold

Inspired by the naturally occurring beauty of marble and stone, en gold’s designs are purposefully pared back, allowing each piece to tell its own unique story. Created by Steffanie Ball while on maternity leave from her career in Interior Architecture and Design, en gold is the fruit of a very organic and unplanned process. The en gold furniture collection combines high quality craftsmanship and materials to produce nostalgic and effortless design.

grazia & co

Hailing from Melbourne, grazia & co are a furniture design and manufacturing company dedicated to the values of authenticity, integrity and community. Founder Grazia Materia is devoted to supporting Australian made, with all pieces manufactured locally – right here in Melbourne. Grazia’s furniture designs are uncomplicated, elegant and exceptionally made; their signature collections marry aesthetic simplicity with a focus on detail and finish.

Sarah Ellison

With a background in fashion design, Sarah Ellison worked as a professional magazine stylist for more than a decade before diving into the furniture and home accessories space. Based in laid-back Byron Bay, she produces pieces that are modern and innovative. There’s a nod to international trends but with a down-to-earth simplicity that is distinctly Australian and easily relatable for both consumer and design led clients. It’s great design without the ego.

Jardan

Chances are, you have heard of Jardan – they have been designing and producing beautiful and alluring furniture in Australia since 1987. And while many furniture manufacturers have moved their manufacturing operations abroad, Jardan continue to create quality pieces right here in Melbourne. It’s not just aesthetics that make Jardan furniture special either: their commitment to sustainability means that every step of the furniture-making process – including delivery – is considered. The result? Great design that can transform everyday living.

Agostino & Brown

Established in 2010, Adelaide-based Agostino & Brown (A&B) create handmade quality furniture with an impeccable level of detail. Their philosophy is focussed on producing unique and innovative designs that are not only timeless but will withstand time, ageing gracefully for generations. Purposefully constructed with minimal wastage, each piece of furniture is both an environmentally conscious and beautiful creation.
