4 ways to spruce up your home for Valentine’s Day

Ah, February 14. The day of love, friendship and admiration. Every year we celebrate those special relationships; the special bonds between friends, family and significant others. Normally this celebration involves plenty of greeting cards, chocolates and red roses.

But what about the home? Your home deserves some special attention too. And we’re not talking about cheesy heart-shaped pillows or tacky plastic roses. Romance doesn’t have to be stale, and neither does your interior. Whether you’re a full blown romantic or prefer to show your affection in a more subtle way, here are four easy ways to style your space in time for Valentine’s Day. Who knows, we might even convince you to keep these Valentine’s-inspired additions long term!

Add warmer tones

Valentine’s day may be about expressing love and celebrating affection, but it’s also the perfect time to introduce some warmer hues into the home. Switching out the sofa cushions with some burnt oranges and adding a throw will instantly add warmth to your living area. You’ll also be prepared for the inevitable cooler weather that’s lurking at the tail-end of summer. The bedroom is another easy spruce-up location. Add some stone-washed linen in soft shades of amber, tan or mustard to quickly soften the space. To polish off the modern romantic look, introduce hints of warm copper, light gold and rose gold through lighting and other accessories.

Go luxe with layers and texture

Nothing screams luxury like rich, textured material. Think soft, draping silk or thick, luscious velvet. A velvet armchair could make the ultimate statement piece, while soft Tibetan fur cushions help create romantic corners in your home. And as one of the cosiest rooms in the home, the bedroom is the perfect place to inject soothing and uplifting texture - a rich velvet bedhead is the perfect romantic addition.

Use lighting to boost the mood

Sometimes, all an interior needs for a mood life is some smart lighting. We don’t mean the gadget kind of smart (although that would be pretty cool) - thoughtful light placement can go a long way in creating the perfect feel. It might be as simple as repositioning a floor lamp or adding a table lamp to create the perfect amount of ambient lighting in a particular area. And yes, Valentine’s is also the perfect excuse to add to that candle collection.

Elevate with scents

Speaking of candles, nothing triggers memory and the emotions attached to them as much as scent. So, to make this Valentine’s Day one to remember, feel free to ramp up the scents. Light some scented candles or event add a diffuser or two. Just be sure that the scents you choose are compatible and don’t become overbearing. And just because flowers are the traditional choice for Valentine’s Day, doesn’t mean you should avoid them. Traditional doesn’t have to mean old or stale. Add some stunning modern bouquets to the kitchen, bathroom and even bedroom. Not only will the flowers bring some beautiful floral scents to the space, but they will also elevate the visual aesthetics.
