scent and the personal interior
an interior is experienced through more than its appearance. scent can be a personal finishing detail, considered with the objects, textiles and light within a room.
this selection was first assembled in spring 2020. it is retained as an archive of fragrance and vessel design, rather than a current shopping guide. availability and formulations should be checked with each brand. our interior styling work in melbourne allows these smaller choices to sit within a cohesive whole.
maison balzac
maison balzac’s approach connects scent with memory and a distinctive collection of objects. in this archive selection, the candle is considered as both a fragrance and a small sculptural presence within the room.
alchemy produx
the chemistry-inspired vessels of melbourne’s alchemy produx bring a precise, utilitarian quality to this selection. their beaker and flask forms offer a contrast to softer textiles and organic surfaces.
diptyque
diptyque’s oval label and glass vessel are recognisable elements of its presentation. the original selection considered the relationship between the fragrance, its packaging and the setting in which it is placed.
byredo
byredo’s restrained packaging offers a quieter visual presence. a small object like this can sit alongside books, ceramics and other personal pieces without becoming the focus of the arrangement.
bor.dan
bor.dan was included in our 2020 archive as a melbourne reference. amber glass contributes warmth and depth to a shelf or side table, with the vessel’s colour becoming part of the wider palette.
tom ford
the dark glass and metal detailing in the tom ford selection offer a more pronounced material contrast. choose scent for personal preference and the comfort of those sharing the space; fragrance is optional, rather than an essential ingredient of a designed interior.
use any candle or fragrance product according to its instructions, with particular care around textiles and other combustible materials.
