warmth in the smaller details

an occasion can draw attention to the smaller details of home: the light beside a chair, the feel of a textile or a simple arrangement on the table. first written for valentine’s day in 2021, this archive considers warmth without a themed interior.

our interior decoration and styling work in melbourne develops these details around the people who use the space.

warmth through the palette

amber, tan and earthy red can connect to existing timber or stone. warm metals may offer another point of continuity. test the relationship in the room rather than assuming that one group of colours suits every setting.

the tactile layer

velvet, linen and silk each respond differently to light and touch. a bedhead, curtain or upholstered chair introduces texture at a meaningful scale. select the fabric for its intended use, care and relationship with surrounding materials.

locally manufactured custom window furnishings allow the fabric, fall and making to be coordinated with the interior.

a more intimate light

a lamp can give a seating area its own scale after dark. consider where the light falls, whether the source is visible and how it will be controlled. the fitting’s material and form are part of the room even when it is switched off.

a personal finishing detail

a seasonal branch or an arrangement in a familiar vessel can bring a temporary change without another permanent addition. fragrance is a personal preference and may not suit everyone sharing the room.

the value lies in the attention given to the setting, rather than the number of objects added. furniture selection and styling can build on what already makes the home individual.
